THE FUTURE IS AFRICA

By 2050, Africa’s population is expected to double. It is projected that of the 2.4 billion more people living on the planet by 2050, 1.3 billion will live in Africa. Ultimately, the future of the continent will depend on its demographic allocation.

In the evolving market of Africa, the health sector, especially the pharmaceutical sector, is gaining ground and is expected to reach between 52.2 and 66.5 billion dollars by 2020, against 17.5 billion in 2010 .

Pharmaceutical production in Africa accounts for only 3% of world production, while the market is booming.

The epidemiological transition, the development of chronic diseases and the emergence of middle classes ready to dedicate part of their purchasing power to their health make that the demand for medicines has never been stronger. African states are therefore obliged to import drugs. For example, Ivory Coast imports 94% of the pharmaceutical products it uses.
